After three years at Renegade, I'm excited to be joining Decagon as an Agent Product Manager. Before diving into what's next, a few reflections on my venture journey.
I’ll always cherish my time at Renegade. It was my first role in venture and my introduction to this industry. Being an investor is a privilege, and I did my best to remind myself of that each and every day.
Thank you to Renata and Roseanne for taking a chance on me three years ago and investing in me every day since.
And to all the founders I’ve had the honor of working for — whether in a big or small way — thank you. The best part of venture is the exposure to fantastic people and the chance to help them along their journey. I am and continue to be inspired by all the founders I’ve worked with.
So…a little more about Decagon.
Decagon is building AI agents for customer service. Their platform enables brands to deploy AI agents that handle customer interactions with unprecedented quality and efficiency.
Below is a bit more about why I joined, the role, and the opportunity ahead.
Work with great people
Decagon has always stood out to me. It’s one of those companies where I heard good things everywhere I turned.
There was a specific stretch where I truly couldn’t avoid hearing something positive about the company.
First, Stevie Case, CRO of Vanta, praised the company a panel I attended. Next, I went on a walk with Ian Feeney where he was glowing when talking about the company’s execution and talent. Then I met Max, now a teammate on the Agent Product Manager team, and was instantly impressed.
As I’ve written about before, when smart people are all pointing in one direction, you should listen:
Ask, “Who are the smartest people I know?”
Once you have your answer, ask yourself, “Why am I not working with them?”
I quickly realized many signs in my life pointed to Decagon.
As I met more of the team, I felt even more conviction. Decagon's bar for talent is second to none. From the Talent team to other Agent Product Managers to Engineers to Ashwin and Jesse, the co-founders — everyone impressed me.
For the last three years, my job has been to meet hundreds of companies and hundreds of people and make judgments about each. Every conversation is a data point on what works, what doesn’t, and what excellence looks like.
Across those data points, I can say the Decagon team is truly top 1%, which gave me the conviction to go all in.
Finding the right role
Rule #1: When offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask which seat.
After spending time with the team, I’d have been excited to join no matter the role. However, most of us (myself included) want a highly impactful role.
My golden rule of role impact is optimizing for a role that is deeply aligned with what the company must achieve to be successful.
Think someone in a GM role at Uber or Design at Figma or a Researcher at OpenAI. These are roles that are integral to the success of the company so succeeding in them is a massive accelerant.
At Decagon, the Agent Product Manager is one of these roles. From a recent blog post:
Agent Product Managers are Decagon’s in-house experts on building, deploying, and scaling AI agents. We work directly with brands to bring their AI agents to life, and then grow them into core parts of their businesses. Think of us as part product manager and part AI consultant.
Helping bring AI agents to life at a company where success hinges upon those AI agents is exactly the kind of role that creates opportunity for impact.
The best roles also entail a lot of trust and autonomy. From the same blog post:
As a general principle, we optimize for hiring smart people, giving them a ton of agency and resourcing, then getting out of their way to let them do what they do best - solve problems.
A high impact role with lots of autonomy. What more could you ask for?
Infinite TAM
Alongside the team and the role, tackling a big problem was paramount for me.
The opportunity for AI is just getting started. ChatGPT launched under three years ago. Markets that once felt solid are now open to disruption.
I was talking with a friend last week who described a class of AI companies as having “infinite TAM.” While no TAM is infinite, the most ambitious AI companies have a market opportunity that is clearly larger than existing software.
This is especially true for companies that are turning Services into Software. Take a look at this chart from Felicis outlining US Software vs. Services TAM.

The size difference is baffling. Even if you just take Professional & Business Services, it’s 10x the size of the US Software market.
It’s for this reason that I’ve spent much of the last year as an investor focused on companies disrupting large services markets (more on this to be announced at a later date). I believe this is one of the greatest business opportunities of our time.
That’s exactly why there’s so much potential for companies like Decagon.
Onward!
I’m excited to dive into this next chapter. I plan to continue investing as an angel, so if you’re building something or just ideating, reach out.
Otherwise, I’ll be focused on building Decagon. The future of services is software, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.
Let’s go!
